Call in at the Bistro

the culinary heritage of the Alps

Bergsteiger? Why Bergsteiger?

A tribute by the Innerkofler family, the fourth generation of which now runs the Dolomitenhof (established 1905) to its founder, Sepp. To the “Bergsteiger” (or mountaineer), as he was respectfully known down in the valley during his life. His outstanding mountaineering achievements, coupled with vision and a pioneering spirit, were essential to the economic development of Sesto from a poor mountain farming village to a flourishing tourist destination. His tragic death in the service of his homeland at the start of World War  has  become history.

What is served?:

in the morning an aperitif with an impressive view, at lunch bistro dishes from South Tyrolean cuisine, in the afternoon a strengthening mountaineer's platter, snacks and homemade Pustertal desserts. And always:

The best of the simple: The culinary heritage of the Alps:

A "poor man's" cuisine, rich in the flavors of the nature that surrounds us. Born out of pure necessity and a tradition that has grown out of it. Use of local and therefore seasonal basic products according to the motto: 0 km, meat and sausages from Sexten stocks, cheese and dairy products from local producers, not least wild vegetables and from our organic meadows or forests. Plus potatoes, beetroot, turnips, cabbage and grain from the Pustertal.
Healthy products from our valley, which we prepare fresh and carefully with many rediscovered ingredients from the past, without artificial flavor enhancers. Seasoned with herbs and berries from our gardens, meadows and forests, fresh in summer, preserved for the winter.
Taste the flavors of the Dolomites.

Hotel Dolomitenhof and Bistro Bergsteiger
A special place need a special architecture
The small bistro subtly bows to the unique beauty of the Fischleintal with its imposing Dolomite backdrop against a green meadow. A simple building that fits into the ensemble of the Fischleinboden as a counterpart to the Bergsteiger bathhouse without showing off. It stands modestly in front of the view of the postcard motif of the Fiscalaina valley the "tourist house" built in 1910 and now listed as protected monument. This explains the chosen colors, shapes and elements of the new building. The highest quality materials such as larch wood, dolomite rock, clay and gravel from the Fischleintal stream were used, as were local companies. In collaboration with the successful Sexten architect Ulla Hell (Plasmastudio), we were able to realize this great project after the first corona lockdown. A successful, sensitive and respectful architecture.

Inside the bistro
A successful balancing act ensures the prosperity of the Alpine regions

Authenticity:

Authenticity in the kitchen arises when the story behind the product and the personality of the kitchenchef are included.
The service staff are the mouthpiece
Sustainability:
Building for generations with local materials and living off products that the soil and climate provide - made by local people.

This is where the founder's idea of this special piece of earth comes into play
