Mountain holidays benefit health – the AMAS altitude study
With the research project AMAS 2000 (Austrian Moderate Altitude Study) carried out between 1998 and 2000, for the first time clear evidence was produced that a correct and individually customized hiking holiday in the mountains has a high recovering effect. The study AMAS 2000 shows that a stay of some length at an altitude of 1,500-2,500 m has real positive effects on the human organism.
Some tangible and very convincing results of the study:
- optimisation of the cardiovascular system by economisation.
- activation of the metabolism.
- reduction of the adipose tissue without dieting.
- improvement of the quality of the red corpuscles and of the oxygen supply of the tissue.
- reduction of the deleterious free radicals.
- intensification of the subjective wellbeing.
